SRM University

The partnership with the prestigious SRM University on Municipal solid waste management began in the year 2011. In this project, the waste from the Potheri University campus around 1000kgs per day is collected and duly segregated as organic, inorganic and inert waste by a dedicated team of HHIDS. The organic waste is biologically treated and converted to bio compost at the treatment area within the campus. Through this project around 84% of the waste is diverted from reaching the landfill. HHIDS also organizes awareness programmes for the student body on Municipal solid waste management and environmental conservation.

B S AbdurRahman University

B.S. Abdur Rahman University, a reputed deemed university, is located in the suburbs of Chennai. The University educates nearly 5500 students each year from across the country.

To establish a green campus and inculcate environmental awareness among students, the university’s administration invited HHIDS to implement a  Municipal solid waste management project in the campus. The project, initiated in December 2015, treats nearly 800 kg of waste generated in the campus on a daily basis. 93% of wastes generated are being segregated.

In addition, Reverse Osmosis (RO) units have been installed at various locations on the campus to provide clean and safe drinking water to students. Wastewater Treatment Plant (WTP) of 10000 KLD, 5000 KLD, and 1000 KLD capacities has also been installed .

Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari

To bring Rameswaram town, located in the southern Indian State of Tamil Nadu, on the lines of SMART city formulated by the Government of India, Vivekananda Kendra, Thirunelveli, formulated the “Green Resilient Rameswaram” project in 2014, incorporating eleven components.

Under the “Green Resilient Rameswaram” project, many initiatives have been established that cover Water, Sanitation and hygiene (WaSH), Municipal Solid Waste Management, Village uplift programs, rural community development programs, etc. On the Municipal Solid Waste Management front, Hand in Hand Inclusive Development and Services has partnered with Vivekananda Kendra along with Rameswaram Municipality to execute the Municipal Solid Waste Management project in the town since 2014.
