From One Village in 2007 to Seven States in 2018!
Municipal Solid Waste Management Projects were first undertaken by Hand in Hand India’s sister concern, Socio Economic and Education Development Trust (SEED TRUST) in a small way at Mudichur Village Panchayat in 2007. The success of our subsequent projects, especially the Kundrathur Town Panchayat in 2008, generated tremendous interest among other town Panchayats in Tamil Nadu, who welcomed us with open arms, to implement similar projects in their geography. For sustainable execution, the projects were gradually migrated in 2010 to Hand in Hand Inclusive Development and Services (HHIDS), a not-for-profit organization registered under section 8 of Indian Companies Act, 1956.
With our extensive experience, we created our own unique ‘Recycle for Life’ model (Click Here to read about our project that won the Runner-up Award in BBC World Challenge contest, 2011), which holistically addresses the problem from the roots – beginning from awareness generation and behavior change across communities to providing customized solutions for waste collection, recovery and processing. We are glad to share that we have achieved 60% waste recovery overall across all our projects, an appreciable feat indeed!
Over the years we have grown thematically and geographically, with tremendous growth in recent times. From one panchayat in 2007, HHIDS today, has tie-ups with municipalities, corporates and institutions impacting Seven states of India – Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. We have also expanded seamlessly into green energy, community safe drinking water (CSDW) and most recently, into e-waste management. Our USPs? Leveraging the synergies among communities, local governments and NGOs and our unique model that addresses the issue holistically. Our innumerable awards and testimonials speak of the impact we have been co-creating with our partners. With an expert team, passion for environmental causes and zeal for excellence, we look forward to the day when our Environmental initiatives expand all across the length and breadth of our country!
