Achievements

  • HHIDS is now an empanelled organization of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), a pioneer in Social Sciences research in the country, under its Assessment and Empanelment Standards for Development Institutions in India (AESDII) initiative.

  • ‘Waste to energy’ models through which the food waste is converted to electricity and put to use for electrifying street lights were successfully established in Mamallapuram and Cantonment – Pallavaram in Tamil Nadu.

  • MSWM services reached out to ten Indian states.

  • HHIDS has won the First prize for Municipal Solid Waste Management under the ‘Community Service Organization (CSO)’ category, for the MSWM project in Karaikal Municipality in the ‘Eighth Regional 3R Forum for in Asia and the Pacific’

  • 80% source segregation of waste is achieved in model project Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu

  • 62.33% of the total waste that is collected is diverted from landfills and processed in the month of November 2018

  • 7204 Green Friends were trained as on November 2018 (Green Friends are the people involved in door to door collection, transportation and processing of waste with advocacy).

  • Municipal Solid waste management programme is implemented with community participation at 84 locations in 12 districts, in the states of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, covering 540,581 families as on November 2018.
