Hand in Hand Inclusive Development and Services (HHIDS) has been the recipient of numerous, state-level, national and international awards for its commendable service in Municipal Solid Waste Management and other initiatives. The expertise of HHIDS in Municipal Solid Waste Management and Environment Initiatives has been recognized through invitation to participate/contribute to various governmental/non-governmental initiatives, some of the noteworthy mentions are shared below.

'Swachh Bharat Award' by CSR Times

Hand in Hand Inclusive Development and Services has been conferred with “Swachh Bharat Award” by CSR Times, a leading magazine on CSR Activities in the country, during the “National Swachhata Summit & Awards”  held on 19th February 2019 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. HHIDS has been chosen for its successful Solid Waste Management initiatives in the country. The event was jointly organized by CSR Times and CAAG (Clean Action and Assessment Group).

Global compact Network India award 2018 received for ONGC

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) has been awarded the winner of the 2nd Innovative Practices Awards for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the Public Sector category during the 13th National Convention of Global Compact Network India (GCNI) held in June 2018 in recognition for the MSWM project in Rameswaram Municipality as part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in association with HHIDS.

Eighth Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific – 2018

3R Forum Award – The Eighth Regional 3R Forum – Asia and The Pacific 2018

Amongst 45 member countries’ participation from Asia and the Pacific, HHIDS was awarded the first place for Municipal Solid Waste Management under the category of Civil Society Organizations (CSO). The award was given for HHIDS’Karaikal Project at “The Eighth Regional 3R Forum – Asia and The Pacific” organized at Indore, Madhya Pradesh by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt. of India, United Nations Centre for Regional Development, and Environment Ministry of Japan from 9 -12 April, 2018. About 23,000 households in Karaikal Municipality have been benefitted through this project, which has achieved 60% segregation of waste at source and waste diversion from landfills.

SwachhSurvekshan 2018 - Cantonment Board – St. Thomas Mount cum Pallavaram

The Cantonment Board – St. Thomas Mount cum Pallavaram has been awarded the “Swachh City Award” for achieving Best Rank in Innovation and Best Practices for Cantonment Boards in SwachhSurvekshan 2018 under the Swachh Bharat Bharat Mission (Urban) recognising the waste-to-energy practice implemented in association with HHIDS.The waste-to-energy projects include setting up of biogas units in Pallavaram High School and PallavaramPark, coming under the ambit of the Cantonment Board, and inside the Officers Training Academy (OTA). HHIDS has been implementing the Municipal Solid Waste Management project in St. Thomas Mount – Pallavaram Cantonment since 2009 .The project serves about 14,500 households and handles 10 tons of waste on a daily basis.

First prize for excellent performance amongst CSR Partners

under ‘Watershed Development Programme in Tamil Nadu’ for Nammiyampattu Watershed from NABARD during the State Credit Seminar 2018-19 held at Chennai.

UNEP World Environment Day challenge – 2012

Hand in Hand India, the parent organization of HHIDS,was awarded thefirst place for “Most Creative, Unique and Fun event”at the “UNEP World Environment Day Challenge 2012”. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) organized “World Environment Day Challenge – 2012” to commemorate the World Environment Day (WED). People all over the globe were encouraged to organize activities in five different categories. Around 10,000 contestants participated in the event worldwide, competing across 5 categories.

HiH India won a Kia Motors fuel efficient/hybrid vehicle as an award.For WED, Hand in Hand India brought together around 570 volunteers to create a gigantic colourfulRangoli carpet on the theme of environment conservation. The 10,000 sq.ft. Rangoli depicted ten environmental themes using the traditionalindianartform, aimedat encouraging and creating environment awareness among the people.

Runner up’ Award in BBC’s World Challenge - 2011

Out of 640 global nominations, Hand in Hand India, HHIDS’ parent organization, was awarded the best runner-up at BBC World Challenge 2011, organized by BBC news television channel in association with Newsweek magazine. The reward included a cash prize of US$10,000 for the Municipal Solid Waste Management project of Mamallapuram–‘Recycle for Life’.This annual award is rewarded every year toappreciate people and businesses bringing economic, social and environmental benefits to local communities through innovation and enterprise at a grassroots level to promote sustainable social enterprises.

Environment Award 2010 for MSWM Initiatives by Govt. of Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu state Government’s Environment department awarded Hand in Hand India, the Environmental Award – 2010 under the environment protection and Management activities category recognizing the municipal solid waste management initiatives in the state.
